Jockey Jim Crowley continued his good form at Doncaster as he took the opening Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes with Breathtaking Look (20-1) on day three of the William Hill St Leger Festival.
Stuart Williams’ filly had already tasted success twice this season and was far from disgraced when fifth at York in a competitive handicap last month.
Crowley bounced out of the stalls quickly on the 20-1 shot and took Breathtaking Look to the front where she settled nicely, with the rest of the field content to sit in behind.
Crowley kicked for home around two furlongs out and Breathtaking Look quickened up nicely putting the race to bed in a matter of strides. Preening (14-1) finished off well for second with Mot Juste (8-1) in third.
A delighted Williams said: “We're really pleased with her. We decided that she'd won some decent handicaps this year for us and she was up in the nineties so we decided to have a go at some black type.
"She's in very good form and Jim rode her perfectly. We didn't race her as a two-year-old and we've been really patient with her. I think she's quite a high class filly and she'll improve again.
"We've had a really good season and we're heading towards a record season with wins and prize money. The team at home have been working really hard and it's been a big team effort.”
Crowley added: “"I kept waiting for someone to come and get me and they didn't. She's done really well all season and it's nice to top it off that way.
"She's tough and she got the job done."
