Doncaster has been home to the November Handicap since 1964 but has been a staple in horse racing since 1876. Prior to this, it had also taken place at Castle Irwell Racecourse, Pontefract Racecourse and New Barns in Manchester where it was originally held. It also used to be called the Manchester November Handicap and the Manchester Handicap.
As you would expect from its name, the race is run in November each year, though it did run in October for a while when it first moved to Doncaster. With no horse ever winning this race more than once it is a hotly contested run. There have been four jockeys that have won 3 times each, and one trainer who has won an amazing 6 times including 2018.
