Al Mubhir and Awaal star among 22 declarations for the £150,000 Pertemps Lincoln Handicap

30th March 2023 – 22 declarations were received for the 1-mile Pertemps Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster this Saturday, worth £77,000 to the winner, including ante-post favourite Al Mubhir for the joint-most successful trainer in the history of the race, William Haggas.

The Yorkshireman has won this contest four times down the years, most recently with Addeybb in 2018 and he is double handed this year with Montassib also declared as Haggas looks to land another big Saturday handicap after he claimed the Irish equivalent of this contest last week.

Atrium showed he can handle the rough nature of a big field handicap when winning won over course-and-distance in September for trainer Charlie Fellowes, and it is important to remember five out of the last six renewals of this race have been won by 4yo’s.

The unexposed Awaal will make his seasonal debut in this for Simon & Ed Crisford, while Baradar is an interesting contender after he won his first and only start for George Boughey over 7f at this track in November. Charlie Hills’ Shadwell-owned Wanees seemingly benefitted from a gelding operation when last seen and is another four-year-old with a live chance.

Jack Channon recently issued a positive update about his Cambridgeshire winner Majestic, and the five-year-old will bid to secure back-to-back victories in the Lincoln for the Channon yard after Johan sprung a 50/1 shock last year.

Latest Pertemps Lincoln Handicap odds: Al Mubhir 7-2f, Awaal 11-2, Wanees 8-1, Baradar 9-1, Jimi Hendrix 10-1, Montassib 10-1, Atrium 12-1, Majestic, Bopedro 16-1, BAR 20-1

Elsewhere on the card, the Pertemps Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed) follows the Lincoln at 4:10pm and has attracted a field of seven runners including the exciting Poker Face who will aim to preserve his unbeaten record for Simon & Ed Crisford.

Earlier on the card in the Pertemps Network Cammidge Trophy Stakes, 12 will go to post with the 112-rated Commanche Falls looking to maintain his excellent record when fresh for Michael Dods.

The first UK turf flat meeting of the year will begin at 1:50pm, and the seven-race card will draw to a close at 5:20pm.
