27 potential runners remain in the SBK Great Yorkshire Chase, worth £100,000, at the five-day stage including exciting handicap chasers Victtorino and Famous Bridge.
SBK, the sportsbook app powered by Smarkets, have been announced as title sponsors at Doncaster this weekend. The SBK Supreme Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle and the SBK Warfield Mares’ Hurdle have been rearranged from Haydock and Ascot respectively, to give a bumper eight-race card on Town Moor on Saturday and Sunday.
Venetia Williams’ 6-year-old Victtorino is chasing a hat-trick of big handicap wins after securing the Sodexo Gold Cup, followed by the Howden Silver Cup at Ascot so far this season.
Likewise, the Nicky Richards-trained Famous Bridge is also in search of a third win on the spin. He has resumed his progress since being returned to 3m and looked a dour stayer in winning the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock last month.
The Jamie Snowden pair of Ga Law and Git Maker have both been left in at the five-day stage. The former would have gone close in the 2023 renewal of this contest but for falling at the final fence. Git Makerhas been dropped 1lb for a below-par effort when only midfield at Ascot on his latest start.
Forward Plan would be a major player if declared by Anthony Honeyball after the 8-year-old won over course and distance on his last start, when Mister Coffey was just behind in second.
Toby Lawes has done a remarkable job since recruiting Surrey Quest to Henfold House, with the 7-year-old unbeaten in two starts since joining the yard. The Surrey Racing-owned chaser won over hurdles at Doncaster in 2021, and is an interesting name to note if confirmed.
Just one Irish entry remains in the shape of Sweet Will whose trainer Emmet Mullins’ sole previous runner at Doncaster was a winner.
