Doncaster Racecourse are delighted to announce that, at the five day stage, 19 horses remain entered for the Vertem Futurity Trophy. The final Group 1 race of the year in Britain sees the country’s top two-year-olds race over a mile at Town Moor on Saturday 27 October.
Aidan O’Brien, successful at Doncaster already this season, with William Hill St Leger winner Kew Gardens, has eight of the nineteen entries. These include JAPAN, winner of the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at Naas in September which was won in 2017 by Saxon Warrior before going on to win the Doncaster Group 1. A full brother to Japan recently went through the sales ring at Tattersalls for 3.4 million guineas. O’Brien also enters NORWAY, winner of the Listed Zetland Stakes at Newmarket in October.
Champion trainer John Gosden enters TURGENEV, second to Godolphin’s subsequent Group 1 winner Royal Marine, along with Qatar Racing’s KICK ON. Charlie Hill’s Group 3 winner PHOENIX OF SPAIN was last seen at Doncaster when running second behind Too Darn Hot in the Howcroft Industrial Supplies Champagne Stakes in September.
There are two supplementary entries for the race, Aidan O’Brien’s MAGNA GRECIA and STORMWAVE, trained by Ralph Beckett.
Doncaster Clerk of the Course Roderick Duncan has reported that the track is currently soft, good to soft in places, with the forecast looking fair until Friday.
