Doncaster Racecourse is inviting local charities, community organisations, sports clubs and voluntary groups in South Yorkshire to become part of history as the racecourse celebrates the 250th anniversary of the iconic Betfred St Leger Stakes this year. As part of the landmark celebrations, 250 community groups will have the opportunity to raise valuable funds for their organisations through a simple and accessible ticket fundraising scheme.
The initiative offers selected community groups the chance to purchase 25 Grandstand tickets for Betfred St Leger Day on Saturday 12th September 2026, at a heavily discounted rate of just £15 per ticket (£375 total). Following this purchase, participating groups will then resell the tickets for a minimum of £25 each, generating a fundraising profit of at least £250 per group.
Tickets can be sold in any way the organisations choose, including raffles, fundraising events, or via social media. The initiative has been created to offer an accessible and effective fundraising opportunity for local organisations, while giving community groups and charities the unique opportunity to benefit from the celebrations of one of Britain’s most historic sporting events.
How the scheme works:
· Community groups register their interest by 10th July 2026
· Successful applicants can purchase 25 Grandstand tickets for Betfred St Leger Day at the exclusive fundraising rate
· Tickets are resold by the group at a minimum of £25 per ticket
· Groups keep all profits raised and reinvest them into their organisation
· All tickets must be sold and claimed by 28th August 2026.
The Betfred St Leger Stakes is the world’s oldest Classic horse race and remains one of the highlights of the British flat racing calendar. The 250th anniversary is expected to attract visitors from all over the UK, making this a unique opportunity for community organisations to benefit from the success of one of the biggest events in Yorkshire.
Executive Director of Doncaster Racecourse, Rachel Harwood, said “Celebrating 250 years of the Betfred St Leger Stakes is a huge moment for Doncaster Racecourse, and we’re delighted to use this milestone to support local charities, sports clubs and community groups across South Yorkshire. We hope this initiative helps organisations raise valuable funds while becoming part of a truly historic event.”
